I currently cannot acquire another RAID card as I’d like to exhaust all possible technical solutions first before I go about trying to replace the card. I’m getting more and more convinced that it would be wiser to just install the drives separately and use a clone utility to make regular copies from one drive to the other. Are maybe the drives incompatible or something?

I already need to talk to the boss about a couple of things tomorrow so maybe we can have a big fat happy jumbo meeting about everything. Would the risk be less if the controllers are used as “normal” IDE controllers? The images are all working again on another server, but it’s quickly running out of space, hence the need for this GB RAID1 array.

Winmodems do suck but what does that have to do with my issue? If the newer BIOS doesn’t work with the new driver it was zipped up with, I’ll be sending back the card. You are foolish to stay with a known problem controller. Since it is RAID, I would not waste your highpolnt trying to fix something that is known for its failure rate.

hjghpoint The driver and BIOS are downloaded as a single package. Now, it seems a group of 10 pictures, copied to this drive, will end up with corrupt images, 2 good ones, and 1 that can no longer be read.
I investigate further and find that it’s more widespread than I thought. I ran into something similar a few 5120 back with a HTP onboard. Good to know for the future though, thanks. I’ve been using the on-board versions of Promise and Highpoint controllers for RAID 1 on my two main pc’s for a couple of years and luckily haven’t had a problem yet imagine that, I’m even using two IBM GXP60’s on a Highpoint controller – one gave me the click of death a couple of months ago, but the other one still has all the data unscathed.

This data is not mission critical.
