StatPress
StatPress is a stats management system for your WordPress installation. It gives you both the daily overview stats as well as the detailed, user stats, referral logs and more!
All in One SEO
Even if WordPress is liked by Google and other search engines from the start, All in One SEO is a must-have plugin as it provides you with the additional control over keywords and titles, not only for the site but also for individual posts and pages, so that your site can be liked by Google even more!
Twitter Tools
If you’re an avid Twitter user like myself and tweet out every new post made, it would be nice to save some of that hassle by having WordPress automatically tweet out the new posts.
If you like, Twitter Tools can do more, from compiling a list of tweets you’ve made each week, to putting your latest tweets in your sidebar.
Akismet
Included by default when you install WordPress, Akismet is still one of my favorite plugins as it keeps most spam right at the door. Activate right away and stop the spam!
Dean’s FCK Editor for WordPress
I find the default TinyMCE editor to be a little bit lacking sometimes in control when you write, so I typically install Dean’s FCK Editor. It provides a whole lot more control over the text you write, the images you place and well…everything else!
WP-PageNavi
Let’s face it right away, the default page navigation of “Newer Posts” and “Older Posts” is not that nice is it! I just wish that Automattic could build this type of navigation into the core instead. It displays a little pagination number list at the bottom of each page, allowing you to go to a specific page as well as next and back.
I’ve got it running at the bottom of this page if you like to see it live in action.
JavaScript Pull-Quotes
These are actually some really cool stuff! By wrapping a <span> tag with a certain class around a block of text, turns it into a pull-quote at that place. You can see this in yesterday’s post, where I have quite a few pull-quotes to break up the heaviness of the text.
Visual Recent Posts
I recently found this gem of a plugin. It allows you to display a recent post list but in a different style. You can have columns, a featured post at the top that always shows and include images to go with the featured title.
I have it running to show the latest tutorials here in the sidebar on your left.
Yet Another Related Posts Plugin (YARPP)
The hands down best related posts plugin there is. It allows you to insert a related posts list anywhere on your site, either by using their automatic insert, or by inserting the code in the theme manually where you want it.
Now in the most recent version, they’ve added support for theming the output of their function, making it even better! In action, this can be seen just at the bottom of this post when you’re finished reading!
WP-Syntax
Quite often, I need to insert code snippets in the blog, and it is nice to be able to do that with code highlighting (different part of the code is in a different color), like in a code editor as well as line numbering. That is where I use WP-Syntax!
