Old School is a WordPress theme that I’m very proud to have had a chance to develop. It is a child theme of the Hybrid theme framework.

The design was by a good friend of mine, Tung Do. Some of you in the WordPress community know him as Small Potato. I only hope I represented his vision in a way that he can be satisfied with. He is definitely a much better designer than I am. It is the most complex design I’ve ever worked on, and attaching it to the Hybrid framework was no small feat.

Old School is the first of many GPL-licensed child themes that I plan to release under the wing of Hybrid. This theme represents my own vision in how WordPress themes should function.

What’s so cool about Old School?

Well, there’s the design. I can’t say enough about how great SP’s design is. Let’s take a look at some of the features:

The theme comes with an extra page template called Showcase. You can view it on the showcase demo page. It includes the feature and tabs sections and can be controlled from the theme settings page. And yes, you can even put the Showcase template on your home page.

It was developed on WordPress 2.7 but should work on 2.6 as well. There’s two major widget sections for the theme. One is in the typical sidebar location while the other is in the footer.

To top off all of the features of Old School, you get the additional benefits of the Hybrid theme, such as great SEO, valid code, and the most powerful framework you can imagine.
