Here is the list of five very small but ultra-cool WordPress plugins you probably never heard about.
1. Google Ajax libraries API
This plugin replaces the JavaScripts like jQuery, Moo tools and others which are usually loaded from your site, to load from Google instead. This has several key benefits.
First is that you will use a lot less bandwidth, important for those paying for bandwidth. Then, your server will be relieved off some load (one less http request). Next, the scripts will likely load faster from Google than from your site. And finally if everyone was using this plugin, all browsers would have the script cached already (as it’s always in the same location) meaning that all pages you visit would load faster.
2. Advanced Excerpt
If you are not satisfied with default WordPress excerpts this is the plugin to have. I use it on my home page for posts beyond the first one and it shows full HTML full code in the excerpt.
3. AskApache Google 404
Have one of the coolest and most useful 404 pages around with this plugin. See it in action by clicking WordPress for Newbies (page not existing on my site).
4. Show Me Options
This one shows you the link to the options page after you activate any plugin. With the settings pages being more and more harder to find, it’s a great time saver.
5. Database Queries
This plugin is for plugin developers, and it allows you to get a listing of all database queries that were run on a page load. Great for performance optimization.
Conclusion
There are many neglected gems among WordPlugins plugins. Let’s start using them!
